Nissan Motors is the Japanese automotive company that was formed by the merger of two smaller firms in 1925. It got its current name in 1934. Nissan Motors entered the global market in the 1960s and today it is one of the most popular automotive giants. In 1999 the French automaker Renault bought a 37 per cent stake in Nissan and later increased its share. As for India, Nissan started operations in the country in 2005 through its subsidiary Nissan Motors India Pvt. Ltd. In this article, let’s have a look at Nissan Motors’ plans for the Indian market and the cars it sells in the nation.

Nissan has big plans for India. Along with its Japanese partner, Renault, the car maker will be investing Rs 4,500 Crore to produce 4 Lakh units of its cars by 2015 in the manufacturing plant in Chennai, India. Nissan plans to make this facility a global export hub. The alliance has already invested Rs 2,900 Crore in the 64-acre facility. The Chennai, India facility was inaugurated in March 2010 and the new car in India, Nissan Micra will be produced there.

Bookings for the small car are already open, the car is being displayed in showrooms, the production has begun and the car will be on the Indian roads in July. The made-in-India car will be exported to Europe, the Middle East and Africa. The car has been specially designed keeping the Indian consumers needs in mind, but will be exported to over 100 countries. That is what Nissan Motors plans as of now. It has been designed on the new V platform or the new versatile platform.

Nissan Motors also sells the 370Z, the Teana and the Nissan X-Trail in India. The Nissan 370Z is a high performer built with cutting-edge technology which is very much needed to ply over the humpy bumpy roads in India. The car’s stylish looks are just perfect to lure the modern Indian crowd. The car comes strapped with a 6-speed manual transmission which flaunts the world’s first synchronized downshift rev-matching system or Synchro Rev Match.

The Nissan Teana is a luxury car from the Japanese car maker’s stables. It comes on to the Indian roads fully equipped with imported Japanese mechanism and technology. The spacious wooden interiors with leather upholstery are spacious enough to hold even the big fat Indian families. This car from Nissan Motors truly redefines lavishness. The Teana’s powerful engine is coupled with a smooth shifting XTRONIC CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) that one can rule over with just the touch of a finger.

The X-Trail is the only off-road car that Nissan Motors offers in India. The spectacular SUV has amazing amount of power that best suits the Indian roads. The executive sedan-sized seats with ample space in the cabin and the luggage compartment make the drive comfy and convenient. The fuel economy of the Nissan X-Trail is also commendable.

The strong and smooth 2349cc VQ23DE V6 petrol This Nissan car was completely imported from Japan with a perfect blend of balanced proportion, futuristic luxury interior, riding comfort, and excellent performance to suit the needs of the Indians and also the rough and humpy roads in India. In 2007, the Nissan Teana car came in with a big bang. After tasting enough success of the Nissan X-Trail, the car make made other smart moves in India to fortify its presence and set up a strong vendor base. The power-packed 2.2 litre dCi diesel motor, washable rear luggage board and inventive practical touches like the chilled drink holders added more fame to the car’s reputation in the Indian market. The car’s, chic interiors and best-in-class 4×4 capabilities amazed Indians. Its excellent on-road performance continued on the Indian roads as well. The compact SUV that had broken all records in the global market was brought to the Indian market in 2004. In this article, let’s have a look at Nissan’s cars in India; the car maker’s journey in India.

The car maker performed a thorough research on the Indian market, and finally, in 2004, the Nissan X-Trail set foot on the Indian roads. Only years after its venture in Japan, one sunny day Nissan suddenly realized that the Indian car market too had a lot of potential. However, in India, operations did not begin that early. Plenty of new cars have been rolled out from the company’s stables since that year. The Japanese car maker Nissan started operation way back in 1933.
